On-Site Level II Venue Requirements

As is always the case for a Level II class, the venue is particularly important. The HAA Level II curriculum not only includes learning the process of calibration but a series of exercises designed to reinforce understanding of acoustical principles and a healthy dose of critical listening. For that reason, the training is best conducted in a relatively quiet dedicated space with minimal furnishings. A "vanilla box" room ready for finishing is perfect. Otherwise, the space should have the flexibility to be modified to experiment with various seating and speaker locations and to experience the effect of various acoustical treatment strategies.

Unless you already have acoustical treatments in place, the HAA will work with one of the sponsors to bring in acoustical treatments for the training. We'll also provide measurement tools and any supplemental materials or software required for the workshop. The host dealer requirements besides the room will include the various components, speakers, and seating required to complete the system. There is no need for a finished space or fancy home theater motif; we mainly want four walls and the freedom to move around.

Under certain conditions, especially for those dealers lacking a showroom, we'll consent to perform the training in a clients home. This is a great option but it will require a very patient client willing to put up with us all day long for three days. We'll also have the need to store tools and acoustical materials nearby outside the room until we need them.

If you are interested you can fill out the HAA Level II Room Requirements Input form to see if your room is suitable. There's no charge for submitting the form. Download it here: Room Requirements Input Form. Submit the form to lemay@homeacoustics.net
